Regis Philbin (1931–2020), famously dubbed "the hardest-working man in show business," was a legendary American television host who still holds the Guinness World Record for the most hours spent on US television. Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1953 and served in the US Navy before getting his start as a page for The Tonight Show in the 1950s. He became a household name as co-host of the long-running syndicated talk show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee (beginning in 1988), which later became Live! with Regis and Kelly (2001) until his departure in 2011. Philbin also achieved massive popularity as the original host of the American version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, the most-watched prime-time series of the 1999–2000 season, and went on to host Million Dollar Password and the first season of America's Got Talent. His signature "host chat" segment, which evolved from his early San Diego show, became his hallmark style, blending personal anecdotes with daily news. In a notable personal revelation, he shared on air in 2007 that he had a younger brother who had just passed away, a secret kept for years to protect his privacy.
