In October 2022, Stake faced major backlash when Twitch banned gambling streams, a move that followed criticism of its sponsorships of streamers like xQc and Trainwreckstv, prompting co-founder Ed Craven to launch the rival livestreaming platform Kick just two months later. The platform has remained controversial; a 2026 Bloomberg Businessweek analysis alleged that rapper Drake, a prominent Stake sponsor on Kick, achieved "big wins" at twice the rate of the second-luckiest player, though Stake rejected the findings as "categorically incorrect."
