Downdetector, founded in April 2012 by Tom Sanders and Sander van de Graaf, is an online platform that provides real-time status updates for websites and services. The platform aggregates user-submitted outage reports from its own site and Twitter, displaying them on interactive maps with detailed breakdowns by city. It has a massive global footprint, operating in 45 countries and tracking over 12,000 services internationally. The company was acquired by Ookla, the firm behind Speedtest.net, in August 2018, and later by Accenture in March 2026. Despite its wide reach, Dhruv Arora, a Senior Director at Ookla, noted in 2025 that the team behind the platform is surprisingly lean, with a headcount in the double digits.
