Jared Goff (born October 14, 1994) is the quarterback for the Detroit Lions, who first rose to prominence at the University of California, Berkeley by setting Pac-12 single-season records for passing yards and touchdowns in 2015. After being selected first overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL draft, he led the team to their first playoff appearance since 2004 in 2017 and reached Super Bowl LIII in 2018, earning Pro Bowl honors in both seasons. Following a decline in production and conflicts with coach Sean McVay, Goff was traded to the Lions in 2021, where he staged a remarkable career resurgence. He guided the Lions to their first playoff win since 1991 in 2023 and an NFC Championship appearance, then secured back-to-back division titles in 2024 (the team's first since 1954) while extending his Pro Bowl selections to five. Interestingly, Goff grew up as a San Francisco 49ers fan and wore number 16 in tribute to Joe Montana, and he is the son of former MLB player Jerry Goff. His college career also yielded numerous school records, including for passing yards, touchdowns, and completions, making him one of the most prolific passers in Cal history.
