Brock Purdy (born December 27, 1999, in Queen Creek, Arizona) is the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, famously selected with the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft—earning the title "Mr. Irrelevant"—after a record-setting college career at Iowa State. In his rookie season, he unexpectedly rose from third-string to starter after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, winning all five of his regular-season starts and leading the team to an NFC Championship appearance. The following year (2023), he led the NFL in several passing categories, set a franchise record for single-season passing yards, earned his first Pro Bowl selection, and guided the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII. Growing up in Arizona, he played flag football as a youth—which his father credits for his quick decision-making—and he is of partial Armenian descent; his younger brother Chubba also plays quarterback at Florida State. At Perry High School, he was a standout player, and at Iowa State he led the Big 12 in passing yards in 2019, setting multiple school records.
