The Nebraska Cornhuskers women's volleyball team is a dominant force in NCAA Division I, holding records for the most wins, most weeks ranked number one, and most AVCA All-Americans in the sport's history. The program began as an extramural activity in 1967 and became an official varsity sport in 1975 under coach Pat Sullivan, but it was Terry Pettit (1977–1999) who transformed it into a national powerhouse, securing the team's first national championship in 1995. Pettit's successor, John Cook, led the team from 2000 to 2025, winning four national championships—including an undefeated debut season—and developing stars like Sarah Pavan, Jordan Larson, and Lexi Rodriguez. The team's immense popularity is reflected in its record-breaking attendance, highlighted by the 2023 Volleyball Day in Nebraska, which drew 92,003 fans to Memorial Stadium, and its move to the larger Bob Devaney Sports Center in 2012. In 2025, Cook retired and assisted in selecting Dani Busboom Kelly as the new head coach, ensuring the program's continued legacy.
