The Buffalo Braves were an NBA expansion team founded in 1970, playing their home games at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium and even hosting some games in Toronto to manage scheduling conflicts. Despite early struggles with records like 22–60, the team featured notable players such as Bob Kauffman and Randy Smith, and was coached by Hall of Famer Dolph Schayes and later Dr. Jack Ramsay. A bizarre highlight occurred in 1972 when the Braves set an NBA record for most points in a single quarter (58) against the Boston Celtics, though they were already trailing by a huge margin and lost the game. In 1978, owner John Y. Brown Jr. swapped franchises with Boston Celtics owner Irv Levin, who then moved the team to San Diego, renaming it the San Diego Clippers. The franchise later relocated to Los Angeles in 1984, becoming the Los Angeles Clippers, making the Braves the last NBA team based in New York State outside of New York City.
