The Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, is a historic football venue that opened on 17 September 1908, making it the first stadium in the Ottoman Empire to host mass sporting events. Originally known as "Papazın Çayırı" (the priest's meadow), it was leased from Sultan Abdul Hamid II by Fenerbahçe's founder Ziya Songülen and others, and became the first official football pitch in Turkey. The stadium is named after Şükrü Saracoğlu, a former Fenerbahçe president who also served as Turkey's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and was purchased by the club in 1933. It has undergone several major renovations, most recently between 1999 and 2006, and remains one of Turkey's highest-capacity stadiums. In 2009, it hosted the UEFA Cup Final, the last ever played before the tournament was rebranded as the UEFA Europa League. Today, it is known as Chobani Stadium for sponsorship reasons, but it remains the iconic home of Fenerbahçe S.K.
