During the 2026 Iran war, Iran launched a major drone and missile offensive on 28 February 2026 targeting American and allied military facilities, with Jordan playing a crucial role in intercepting projectiles crossing its airspace. Building on its experience from the 2024 Iran–Israel conflict and the June 2025 Twelve-Day War, Jordan's air defenses proved highly effective, intercepting 108 of 119 projectiles in the first week and 79 of 85 in the second week. The conflict saw significant incidents, including a strike on a German Bundeswehr camp, a temporary evacuation of the US embassy in Amman, damage to a THAAD radar system, and the destruction of a US MQ-9 Reaper drone. Iran-aligned groups such as Saraya Awliya al-Dam and Kataib Jund al-Karrar claimed responsibility for various attacks, including one on Tower 22 in eastern Jordan, while debris from intercepted weapons caused minor injuries and damage. By late March, Jordan's government urged Iraq to curb cross-border attacks from Iran-aligned factions to prevent further escalation, highlighting the country's central role in regional air defense amid the broader conflict.
