Lufthansa Cargo

Lufthansa Cargo AG is a German cargo airline and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, headquartered at Frankfurt Airport, its main hub. The company operates dedicated freighter aircraft while also utilizing the cargo capacity of the group's 350 passenger planes. Originally founded as German Cargo Services in 1977, the company was restructured and became a limited stock company in 2004. Over its history, it has engaged in several joint ventures, including the WOW Alliance and Jade Cargo International, and opened a specialized hub in Hyderabad, India, in 2011 for transporting temperature-sensitive goods. In a notable recent decision, Lufthansa Cargo confirmed in September 2020 that it would retire its remaining McDonnell Douglas MD-11F fleet in 2021, despite a surge in freight demand during the COVID-19 pandemic.
