Drake Maye (born August 30, 2002, in Huntersville, North Carolina) is the standout quarterback for the New England Patriots, having played college football at the University of North Carolina. There, he won the Shaun Alexander Award and ACC Player of the Year in 2022 after leading the NCAA in total offense with over 5,000 yards, setting school records for passing yards and touchdowns. Selected third overall in the 2024 NFL draft—signing a fully guaranteed $36.64 million contract—Maye earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie, and in his second year led the Patriots to their first division title since 2019 and a spot in Super Bowl LX, while earning second-team All-Pro and another Pro Bowl nod. A multi-sport high school star, he flipped his commitment from Alabama to UNC, was named The Charlotte Observer's 2019 male athlete of the year, and was a Under Armour All-American. Growing up a Carolina Panthers fan and attending Super Bowl 50, Maye comes from an athletic family, as his three brothers also played football, with two winning national championships in college.
