Alexander Mikhailovich Zverev (born 22 January 1960) is a former professional tennis player who competed for the Soviet Union, and is widely recognized today as the father of ATP stars Alexander and Mischa Zverev. His career highlights include gold medals at the 1984 Friendship Games, the 1985 Summer Universiade, and the 1986 Goodwill Games, alongside a bronze at the 1983 Universiade. A dedicated Davis Cup competitor from 1979 to 1987, he won 18 of his 36 rubbers, notably defeating the world No. 1 doubles player Tomáš Šmíd. Though he primarily played on the Challenger circuit, he qualified for the 1985 Australian Open and 1986 Wimbledon, and secured three Soviet national singles titles. In 1991, he moved to Germany with his wife, Irina Zvereva, where their sons later represented their new home country on the ATP Tour.
