David Harbour (born April 10, 1975) is an American actor who rose to global fame as Jim Hopper in the Netflix sci-fi hit Stranger Things (2016–2025), earning two Primetime Emmy nominations for the role. His impressive filmography includes starring as the title character in Hellboy (2019), playing Santa Claus in Violent Night (2022), and portraying Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Black Widow (2021) and Thunderbolts (2025). He also voiced Eric Frankenstein in the animated series Creature Commandos (2024–present) and won a Primetime Emmy for his part in DTF St. Louis (2026). A Dartmouth College graduate, Harbour began his Broadway career in 1999 and earned a Tony nomination in 2005 for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. In a quirky personal note, he once knew the real-life gangster who inspired the character "Teddy KGB" in the 1998 film Rounders.
