Ons Jabeur (born 28 August 1994) is a Tunisian tennis star who has shattered numerous barriers, becoming the highest-ranked African and Arab player in tennis history with a career-high world No. 2 ranking in June 2022. She made history as the first African and Arab woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final, finishing as runner-up at Wimbledon (2022 and 2023) and the US Open (2022). Before those major finals, she broke new ground by winning the 2021 Birmingham Classic—her first WTA title and the first ever by an Arab woman—and captured her biggest trophy at the 2022 Madrid Open. Her rise began early, as she won the junior French Open in 2011 (the first African or Arab to claim a junior major since 1964), having been introduced to the sport by her mother at age three. Beyond her on-court success, Jabeur is credited with raising the profile of tennis across Africa, earning the Arab Woman of the Year award in 2019 for her groundbreaking achievements.
