West Ham United is a professional football club based in Stratford, East London, currently competing in the EFL Championship after relegation from the Premier League, and playing at the London Stadium since moving from the Boleyn Ground in 2016. Founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks and reformed as West Ham United in 1900, the club joined the Football League in 1919 and reached the top flight in 1923, the same year it lost the first FA Cup final held at Wembley. The club has won five major honours, including three FA Cups (1964, 1975, 1980), the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965, and the UEFA Conference League in 2023, alongside a minor Intertoto Cup win in 1999. Remarkably, West Ham is one of only eight clubs never to have fallen below the second tier of English football, spending 68 of 100 league seasons in the top flight, with its best league finish being third place in 1985–86. The club is also famous for supplying three players—Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, and Martin Peters—to England's 1966 World Cup-winning team, and shares a fierce, often troubled rivalry with Millwall.
