Chris Evert (born December 21, 1954) is a legendary American tennis player who dominated the sport for over a decade, holding the world No. 1 ranking for 260 weeks and finishing as year-end No. 1 seven times (1974–1978, 1980, 1981). She won an incredible 157 singles titles, including 18 major championships—a record seven French Open titles and a joint-record six US Open titles—while her fierce rivalry with Martina Navratilova defined women's tennis in the late 1970s and 1980s. Evert's consistency was unmatched: she reached the semifinals or better in 52 of her 56 majors, never lost in the first or second round, and won at least one major for 13 consecutive years, while her career winning percentage of 89.97% (and 94.55% on clay) remains among the best ever. Coached by her father Jimmy Evert from age five, she burst onto the scene as a teenager, beating world No. 1 Margaret Court at age 15 and making her Grand Slam debut at the 1971 US Open, where she saved six match points before losing to Billie Jean King. Beyond playing, Evert served as WTA president for 11 years, was inducted into the Hall of Fame, and now works as a tennis analyst for ESPN, cementing her legacy as one of the sport's all-time greats.
