The LSU Tigers and Lady Tigers represent Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, competing in NCAA Division I as members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). While the official nickname is "Fighting Tigers," the "Lady Tigers" moniker has been used for women's teams, though since 2017 it applies only to basketball, cross country, and track and field. LSU made history as the first SEC school to win at least 10 SEC championships in the "big three" sports of football, men's basketball, and baseball, and also the first to claim a national title in each of those sports. The baseball program is a powerhouse with eight national championships since 1991 (including 2023 and 2025) and 20 College World Series appearances, while men's basketball won a title in 1935 and has four Final Four appearances. The women's basketball team, coached by Kim Mulkey, captured its first national championship in 2023, and the football team competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Beyond these, LSU sponsors teams in sports like beach volleyball and cross country, with baseball currently led by coach Jay Johnson.
