Stephen Yan
Stephen Yan (born 1939) is a Hong Kong-Canadian chef and television host best known for the long-running CBC cooking show Wok with Yan. After moving to Canada in the 1960s, Yan's show began locally in Vancouver in the late 1970s, eventually airing nationally on CBC from Ottawa and Vancouver until 1995, producing over 500 episodes that were sold worldwide. His charismatic style featured spontaneous humour, a trademark Cantonese accent, and signature aprons bearing a different "wok" pun each episode, and he authored several bestselling cookbooks. Beyond the main series, he created travel and variety specials like Wok's Up? and released cooking videos such as Wok on the Wild Side. Interestingly, he is not related to fellow chef Martin Yan, though Martin Yan actually worked as a protege in Stephen's "Flying Squad" of chefs before achieving his own fame.
