The Chenab Rail Bridge, located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, India, is the world's highest rail bridge, with its deck soaring 359 meters (1,178 feet) above the riverbed. Spanning 1,315 meters, this steel and concrete marvel features a 785-meter deck arch and was engineered to withstand the region's highest seismic risk (Zone V) and potential blast threats. Construction began in 2017, the arch was completed by April 2021, and the bridge was fully finished in August 2022 at a cost of ₹14.86 billion (US$150 million). After successful trial runs in June 2024, the bridge was officially opened for rail traffic on 6 June 2025 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This engineering feat, part of the Jammu–Baramulla line, provides a crucial all-weather strategic and economic link connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India, bypassing roads often blocked by winter snow.
