On 8 April 2026, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire in the 2026 Iran war, mediated by Pakistan, following a conflict that began with US-Israeli airstrikes on 28 February that killed Iran's supreme leader and prompted Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global trade. The ceasefire was repeatedly violated by both sides, but US President Donald Trump extended it indefinitely on 21 April, only for it to collapse on 8 July after renewed attacks.
