The 2025 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the 156th overall and the second to use the 12-team College Football Playoff, ran from August 23 through the national championship on January 19, 2026, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Indiana Hoosiers captured their first-ever national title by edging out the Miami Hurricanes 27–21, completing a perfect 16–0 season—the first FBS team to do so since the 1894 Yale Bulldogs. The season also saw major conference realignment, as Delaware and Missouri State joined Conference USA for their first FBS campaigns, while UMass returned to the Mid-American Conference as a full member. In April 2025, the NCAA approved several rule changes, including penalties for feigned injuries (a timeout or 5-yard delay), limited timeouts in overtime, and simplified replay terminology ("Overturned" and "Upheld" only). Additional tweaks addressed punt formation protections, kickoff fair-catch signals, and added "simulating brandishing a weapon" to unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
