The 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the 20th edition of the quadrennial tournament, will be hosted by Qatar from 27 August to 12 September 2027, making it the first World Cup held in the Arab world and the third consecutive edition staged in Asia. Germany will enter as defending champions after beating Serbia in the 2023 final, and the event will serve as a qualifier for the 2028 Summer Olympics, with top teams from Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Americas, and Europe earning spots alongside host nation the United States. Qatar was awarded the hosting rights unanimously on 28 April 2023 during a FIBA Central Board meeting in Manila, earning automatic qualification, while 80 teams from four FIBA zones will compete in qualifiers tied to continental cups such as AfroBasket 2025 and EuroBasket 2025. The tournament will use four venues—including the Lusail Arena, Al Attiyah Arena, and Duhail Arena (built for the 2015 World Handball Championship) and the Al Janoub Stadium, a football venue temporarily converted into a basketball arena—all situated within 30 minutes of each other. A ceremonial turnover at the 2023 final in Pasay, Philippines, officially transferred hosting rights to Qatari officials, and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Board held its first meeting in late 2023 to begin preparations.
