Six Flags America was a 131-acre amusement park in Woodmore, Maryland, that began its life in 1974 as a drive-through wildlife preserve financed by Texas billionaire Ross Perot and operated by ABC. After the safari failed, the site evolved into a theme park, passing through names like Wild World and Adventure World (1992) before becoming the tenth Six Flags park as Six Flags America in 1999. It featured the Hurricane Harbor Maryland water park and served the Washington, DC, metro area for decades. Following the 2024 merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair, the park permanently closed on November 2, 2025, as part of the new company's portfolio optimization. In April 2026, the 515-acre site was sold to Thirty Five Ventures (owned by NBA star Kevin Durant) and TPA Group for mixed-use redevelopment. This closure marked the end of a remarkable transformation from a struggling animal park to a major regional attraction.
