Rata Blanca is an Argentine heavy metal band formed in 1986 by guitarist Walter Giardino and drummer Gustavo Rowek, who initially bonded after leaving the band V8. They achieved massive mainstream success with their second album, Magos, espadas y rosas (1990), which featured the iconic hits "Mujer amante" and "La leyenda del hada y el mago," propelling them to stardom and even landing them on TV shows and cumbia venues due to overwhelming demand. After a period of lineup changes and a disbandment in 1998, the band reunited in 2000 when singer Adrián Barilari and keyboardist Hugo Bistolfi returned, leading to the hugely successful comeback album El camino del fuego (2002). Their 2005 follow-up, La Llave de la Puerta Secreta, went Gold even before its official release, cementing their legacy. In 2003, they performed with Deep Purple's legendary vocalist Glenn Hughes as a special guest at the Gran Rex Theater. Today, Rata Blanca is celebrated as one of the most important and influential rock bands in Latin America, blending heavy metal with classical and melodic elements.
