The World Brewers Cup (WBrC) is an annual international competition organized by World Coffee Events, a body founded by the Specialty Coffee Association, designed to showcase the craft of manual filter coffee brewing. To compete, baristas must first win their national championship, with roughly 40 countries participating as of 2019, and the event typically runs alongside other major competitions like the World Barista Championship. The inaugural event took place in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 2011, with the 2022 edition held in Melbourne, Australia. The competition features two rounds: a first round with a compulsory service (using beans provided by organizers) and an open service (using the competitor's own beans with a 10-minute presentation), followed by a final round for the top six scorers. Competitors must use manual, unpowered brewing devices—such as pour-over, French press, or modified AeroPress—and their final brews must have a total dissolved solids (TDS) level of 2% or less to distinguish them from espresso. The competitor with the highest final score is crowned the World Brewers Cup Champion.
