Grandstand is a major tennis stadium located in the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, seating 8,125 people and serving as the third-largest court at the complex. It holds the distinction of being the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified tennis stadium in the world, designed by Rossetti Architects and built by AECOM. The stadium replaced a 1978 arena of the same name as part of a $550 million renovation announced in 2013, officially debuting on August 29, 2016, with Caroline Wozniacki defeating Taylor Townsend in the first match. Architecturally, the court features 16 sides that intentionally appear round, with a PTFE fabric exterior and a below-ground design that preserves intimacy and shade for spectators. Originally using Pro DecoTurf, the playing surface was switched to Laykold courts in 2020, and the venue has earned recognition including the NYCxDesign Award.
