Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, set in 1911 during the decline of the American frontier, where former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down his old gang members to save his kidnapped wife and son. The game offers a vast open world traversed by horseback, a signature "Dead Eye" slow-motion targeting mechanic, a morality system affecting honor and fame, and an online multiplayer mode for up to 16 players. Its development spanned over five years, making it one of the most expensive games ever made, and involved extensive research, motion capture, and an original score by Bill Elm and Woody Jackson, though it was also marred by controversy over unethical working conditions. Released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May 2010, it later launched on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2023, Windows in 2024, and other platforms in 2025, receiving critical acclaim for its visuals, music, and narrative. It has shipped over 25 million copies and is considered one of the greatest video games ever made, spawning the zombie-themed DLC Undead Nightmare and a prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, released in October 2018.
