Cheslyn Hay is a village and civil parish in South Staffordshire, England, situated about 3 miles south of Cannock and forming a continuous built-up area with Great Wyrley and Landywood. Historically nicknamed "Wyrley Bank," the village has experienced significant post-war suburban growth, though it retains historical landmarks like the 1855 Salem Methodist Church, and its old 1883 primary school was demolished in the 1990s. Today, it hosts major employers such as B.S. Eaton (concrete products) and PP Control & Automation, and is served by Landywood railway station (opened 1989), which replaced an older station that closed in 1965. The village's educational needs are met by two primary schools and Cheslyn Hay Academy, which was constructed in 1977. Perhaps most notably, in 1993, Cheslyn Hay became part of an unsolved murder investigation when the severed head of Kuwaiti businessman Adnan al Sane was found in the playing field of the local high school, though his killers were never traced. Notable locals include footballer Charlie Moore (1893–1966), who made 328 appearances for Manchester United without scoring, and television writer Anthony Read (1935–2015).
