Carl Edwards (born August 15, 1979) is a former professional stock car racing driver and current analyst for NASCAR on Prime Video, best known for his signature backflip off his car to celebrate victories. He won the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series championship and came agonizingly close to the 2011 Sprint Cup title, losing a tiebreaker to Tony Stewart. Driving primarily for Roush Fenway Racing (2005–2014) and later Joe Gibbs Racing, Edwards made history in 2005 by winning both the Busch and Cup races at Atlanta in the same weekend—the first driver to do so at that track and the first to earn his first career wins in both series on the same day. Before his big break, he worked as a substitute teacher and studied engineering, but he rose through the Truck Series, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2003. In recognition of his career, he was named one of NASCAR's 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023 and inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2025.
