The Washington State Cougars football program, representing Washington State University in Pullman, competes in the NCAA Division I FBS as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, with the team first taking the field in 1894. The Cougars play their home games at Martin Stadium (opened in 1972, capacity 35,117) and share a fierce rivalry with the Washington Huskies, traditionally culminating in the annual Apple Cup. The program's early history includes a standout 1915 season under coach William Henry Dietz, who led the team to a perfect 7-0 record and a victory over Brown in the Rose Bowl—the program's only Rose Bowl win.
