The Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center (formerly the Tennessee Prison for Women) is a maximum-security facility in Nashville, Tennessee, serving as the state's primary correctional institution for women. Opened in 1966 with a capacity for 817 inmates, it functions as the intake and classification center for all female prisoners and also houses the state's female death row inmates. Among its most notable current inmates is Christa Pike, who at age 20 became the youngest woman sentenced to death in the U.S. during the post-Furman era and is currently the only woman in Tennessee awaiting execution. The prison has also held high-profile criminals such as former nurse Jennifer Hyatte, who fatally shot a corrections officer during a prison break, and teacher Pamela Rogers Turner, convicted of child rape. A famous former inmate is Cyntoia Brown, who was a juvenile forced into prostitution when she murdered a man at age 16; after a public campaign, she received clemency and was released on August 7, 2019. Other notable inmates include Vanessa Coleman and Natasha Cornett, both serving lengthy sentences for their roles in separate violent crimes.
