Earth Quake is an American power pop band formed in the San Francisco area in 1966 (originally as Purple Earthquake). After releasing two albums on A&M Records in the early 1970s with little commercial success, they helped set up Beserkley Records in 1973 with manager Matthew King Kaufman, releasing four albums there between 1975 and 1979. The band is notable for backing Jonathan Richman on his 1974 classic "Roadrunner" and collaborating with artists like Greg Kihn. The original lineup split in the early 1980s, and tragically, all original members except guitarist Robbie Dunbar have since passed away (Gary Phillips in 2007, John Doukas in 2011, Stan Miller in 2019, and Steve Nelson in 2020). Dunbar, the sole survivor, revived the band with new lineups in 2016 and 2022, continuing to perform in the Bay Area and record new original songs.
