Al Hilal SC, founded on 13 February 1930 in Omdurman by Gordon Memorial College graduates, is Sudan's most decorated football club, holding a record 31 Sudan Premier League titles. The club's name means "crescent" in Arabic, and it plays at the 65,000-capacity Al-Hilal Stadium, nicknamed "The Blue Jewel," which was renovated in 2018. Following the outbreak of the Sudanese civil war in 2023, domestic football was suspended, so with CAF's authorization, the club temporarily relocated abroad—winning Mauritania's Super D1 in the 2024-25 season before moving to the Rwanda Premier League for 2025-26. Historically, Al Hilal pioneered Sudanese sports by becoming the first club to charge admission fees in 1932, and it maintains a fierce rivalry with Al-Merreikh in the famous Omdurman Derby. In continental play, the club has made 40 CAF Champions League appearances, often clashing with teams like Al Ahly, while its motto "Allah – Al-Watan – Al-Hilal" (God – The Nation – Al-Hilal) reflects its deep national identity.
