Denis Leary (born August 18, 1957) is an American-Irish comedian and actor who first shot to fame in the early 1990s through his high-energy, ranting appearances on MTV, including the notorious comedic song "Asshole"—which was voted #1 in Australia's Triple J Hottest 100 poll in 1993. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Irish immigrant parents, he is a dual citizen of the US and Ireland and a distant cousin of talk show host Conan O'Brien. Leary built a substantial film career with roles in hits like Demolition Man (1993), The Ref (1994), and The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), while also lending his voice to beloved animated characters such as Diego in the Ice Age franchise and Francis in A Bug's Life. His greatest television success came as the co-creator and star of the firefighter drama Rescue Me (2004–2011), a role that earned him three Primetime Emmy nominations for both acting and writing. He later wrote and starred in the FX comedy series Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2015–2016), and took on notable roles like Captain George Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man and coach Vince Penn in Draft Day.
