İstanbul Başakşehir Futbol Kulübü, commonly known as Başakşehir, is a professional football club based in Istanbul, Turkey, that was founded in 1990 as İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor before being reorganized and rebranded in 2014. The club, which plays its home matches at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, climbed the league ladder, earning its first Süper Lig promotion in 2007 and reaching a Turkish Cup final in 2011, though it suffered a brief relegation in 2012-13 before bouncing back as second-tier champions. After the 2014 rebranding under chairman Göksel Gümüşdağ, Başakşehir quickly became a top-flight contender, finishing as runners-up in the Süper Lig in 2016-17 and 2018-19. The club's greatest achievement came in the 2019-20 season when it clinched its first-ever Süper Lig championship on 19 July 2020, while also impressing in Europe by topping a UEFA Europa League group that included Roma and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Known for its vibrant orange and navy colors, Başakşehir continues to compete in domestic and international tournaments such as the Turkish Cup, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Europa League, aiming to establish itself as a consistent force in Turkish and European football.
