Donovan Mitchell (born September 7, 1996), nicknamed "Spida", is a star guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA, having been drafted in 2017 and initially playing for the Utah Jazz. A seven-time NBA All-Star and three-time All-NBA member, he won the Slam Dunk Contest as a rookie in 2018 and played college basketball at Louisville. Traded to Cleveland in 2022, he immediately led the team to their first playoff appearance without LeBron James since 1998 and set a franchise record by scoring 71 points in a single game. In 2025, he earned All-NBA First Team honors after guiding the Cavaliers to the best record in the Eastern Conference. Growing up in New York, his father worked for the Mets, and he spent his childhood around MLB locker rooms, even witnessing LeBron James's "Decision" in 2010. Before his NBA career, he won two prep national championships at Brewster Academy and honed his skills at the famous Rucker Park.
