Nadia Podoroska is an Argentine professional tennis player (born 1997 in Rosario) of Ukrainian descent who began playing at age five, overcoming early financial struggles and a series of injuries in 2017 before relocating to Spain to advance her career. Her breakthrough came at the 2020 French Open, where she made history as the first qualifier ever to reach the semifinals, defeating Elina Svitolina and earning the WTA Newcomer of the Year award. In 2021, she defeated Serena Williams at the Italian Open (Williams' 1,000th career match), reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 36, and made the French Open doubles semifinal. She has won one WTA doubles title (2017 Copa Colsanitas) and three WTA Challenger singles trophies, and she competed for Argentina at the 2020 Summer Olympics. After a ten-month injury hiatus in 2022, she returned to competition, climbed back into the top 100, and reached her first WTA Tour semifinal in years at the 2023 Ningbo Open.
