Austin Wells (born July 12, 1999) is a catcher for the New York Yankees who represents the Dominican Republic internationally, reflecting his mother's heritage. Growing up in Las Vegas to athletic parents—his father played baseball and his mother was a gymnast at Arizona—he starred at Bishop Gorman High School before earning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors at the University of Arizona. Despite an elbow injury in high school, the Yankees selected him in the first round (28th overall) of the 2020 MLB draft, signing him for a $2.5 million bonus. After climbing through the minor leagues, he made his MLB debut on September 1, 2023, impressively recording his first hit in his first at-bat against Justin Verlander.
