State of Play (video program)

State of Play is a series of digital video programs produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) to showcase upcoming games for PlayStation consoles and VR platforms. Launched in March 2019, the format was created to communicate directly with consumers, shifting away from large industry events like E3 in favor of a controlled, digital presentation similar to Nintendo Direct. These broadcasts feature a mix of new game reveals, gameplay footage, updates on existing titles, and occasional hardware announcements, streamed on platforms like YouTube and Twitch. Sony also uses a separate PlayStation Showcase format for major first-party announcements, though recently, such titles have also been revealed in standard State of Plays. Overall, it serves as Sony's primary channel for engaging the PlayStation community with software and hardware updates.
