Luis Castillo is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Chicago White Sox, having previously starred for the Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners. After signing with the Giants in 2011 and moving through the Marlins' farm system, he made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2017 and quickly became a standout, earning three All-Star selections. In 2019, he was named the Reds' Opening Day starter and posted career highs with 15 wins and 226 strikeouts, also winning NL Pitcher of the Month in April. A notable twist in his career came in 2016 when a trade to the Padres was scuttled just two days later due to an injury to a player involved, sending him back to Miami. In July 2022, the Reds traded him to the Mariners, where he signed a five-year, $108 million contract extension that September. Known for his groundball-inducing sinker, he led the NL in walks in 2021 but remains one of the game's most reliable arms.
