The Mandalorian (or Star Wars: The Mandalorian) is an American space Western television series created by Jon Favreau for Disney+, marking the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise. Set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, it follows Pedro Pascal as the lone bounty hunter Din Djarin, who protects the Force-sensitive child Grogu from remnant Imperial forces. The series has a lengthy production history—George Lucas explored the idea in 2009 before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, with Favreau signing on as showrunner in March 2018 and Industrial Light & Magic developing the groundbreaking StageCraft technology for its 360-degree video wall. The three seasons premiered in 2019, 2020, and 2023, earning widespread critical acclaim and Primetime Creative Arts Emmy wins for each season. Development for a fourth season shifted instead into a feature film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, directed by Favreau and released in May 2026, while spin-offs like The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew expand this interconnected storyline.
