Nuno Borges (born 1997) is Portugal's current No. 1 tennis player, reaching a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 30 in September 2024—the second-highest ever for a Portuguese player, behind only João Sousa. His crowning achievement came at the 2024 Swedish Open in Båstad, where he won his first ATP singles title by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final, joining an elite group of just five players to beat Nadal in a clay-court final. Before turning pro, Borges starred at Mississippi State University, earning a degree in Kinesiology, reaching the NCAA singles final, and being named ITA National Player of the Year in 2019. On the professional tour, he made his ATP debut in 2021 and his Grand Slam debut at the 2022 French Open, while also shining in doubles with Francisco Cabral, with whom he won the 2022 Estoril Open as the first Portuguese pair to claim their home title. In 2023, he broke into the top 70 after winning the inaugural ATP Challenger 175 in Phoenix and earned his first Masters 1000 win, and in 2024 he made history by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open.
