Gavin Williams (born July 26, 1999) is a starting pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians, drafted 23rd overall in 2021 after a standout college career at East Carolina University where he was named AAC Pitcher of the Year. Before college, he famously threw two consecutive no-hitters as a high school senior, and he made his MLB debut on June 21, 2023, finishing his rookie year with a solid 3.29 ERA. His 2024 season was hampered by right elbow inflammation, leading to a 60-day injured list stint and a challenging 4.86 ERA over 16 starts upon his return. In 2025, Williams made history on July 1 by retiring three baserunners via non-plate-appearance outs (one caught at home and two pickoffs) in a single inning—a feat unprecedented for Cleveland since 1920 and unseen in MLB since 1985. He also came within two outs of a no-hitter against the New York Mets on August 6, 2025, striking out Francisco Lindor before Juan Soto hit a home run to spoil the historic bid.
