Swansea City AFC, founded in 1912 as Swansea Town (renamed in 1970), is a Welsh professional club currently competing in the EFL Championship, having played at the Swansea.com Stadium since 2005. The club has a dramatic history, winning the Third Division South in 1925 and 1949, then soaring to the First Division in 1981 (finishing sixth, a club record) before plummeting back to the Fourth Division by 1986, with later league titles in 2000 and 2008. In 2011, they were promoted to the Premier League, and in 2013 they captured the League Cup—their first major trophy—earning a spot in the UEFA Europa League. After relegation from the top flight in 2018, they have remained in the Championship. The club is also notable for its fan ownership, as the Swansea City Supporters' Trust holds shares in the team, a model praised in 2012, and their remarkable rise was chronicled in the 2014 film Jack to a King – The Swansea Story. Beyond these achievements, they boast ten Welsh Cups and two Football League Trophies, having also qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup seven times.
