Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is the American-based, Japanese-owned powerhouse behind the PlayStation brand, and it stands as the world's largest video game company by revenue. It was founded in 1993 in Tokyo as Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), launching the original PlayStation in Japan in 1994 and in North America and Europe the following year. In 2010, Sony created Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI) in California to handle online services like the PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store. These two entities merged in 2016 to form the modern Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is headquartered in the United States.
