The Tokyo Game Show (TGS) is an annual video game trade fair held every September at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, organized by CESA and Nikkei Business Publications, with a primary focus on Japanese games while also attracting international developers. First held in 1996, the event transitioned from a twice-yearly schedule to an annual one in 2002, and it set its all-time attendance record in 2018 with 298,690 visitors. The four-day event reserves the first two days for industry professionals and the final two for the general public, featuring diverse exhibition zones that include general showcases for major companies like Sony and Square Enix, as well as dedicated areas for smartphones, PCs, and children's games. Notably, the 2020 and 2021 editions were held online only due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the show successfully returned to in-person exhibits in 2022. Beyond the exhibits, TGS is famous for its vibrant cosplay culture, highlighted by the "Cosplay Collection Night" parade hosted by Cure, Japan's largest cosplay community website.
