Luis Ángel Gil is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees, who signed with the Minnesota Twins in 2015 before being traded to New York in 2018 for Jake Cave. He made his MLB debut in 2021, making history as the first pitcher ever to throw a scoreless start in his first three career appearances. After missing the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to Tommy John surgery and recovery, Gil had a breakout 2024 campaign, winning the American League Rookie of the Year award after posting a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA and 171 strikeouts. That season he also set a Yankees rookie record with 14 strikeouts in a single game and earned AL Pitcher of the Month honors for May. In 2025, he was sidelined by a high-grade lat strain but returned in August, making 11 starts before being optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
