Thomas Massie (born January 13, 1971) is a Republican U.S. Representative for Kentucky's 4th district since 2012, known for his libertarian views and the nickname "Mr. No" due to his staunch opposition to federal spending, warrantless surveillance, and interventionism. Raised in Vanceburg, Kentucky, Massie earned degrees from MIT, where he invented technology allowing computers to simulate touch, later founding SensAble Technologies, which he sold in 2003 before becoming Lewis County Judge-Executive in 2010. He entered Congress in a 2012 special election with Tea Party backing, and during President Donald Trump's second administration, he drew national attention for clashing with Republican leadership over the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the Epstein Files Transparency Act. In 2026, Massie ran for re-election but lost the Republican primary to Ed Gallrein, the Trump-endorsed candidate, in what was the most expensive U.S. House primary in history. Beyond politics, Massie was an MIT standout, winning the 2.70 design competition and driving the solar car "Galaxy" in the 1990 GM Sunrayce, finishing sixth.
