The FA Community Shield is an annual English football curtain-raiser held at Wembley Stadium, pitting the previous season's Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners (or the league runners-up if a team wins both). First played in 1908 as the Charity Shield—replacing the Sheriff of London Charity Shield—the inaugural match saw Manchester United beat Queens Park Rangers, and the format varied for years before settling into its current league-champions-vs-cup-winners structure in 1930. Since 1959 it has marked the start of the season, and since 1993 penalty shootouts have decided drawn matches, replacing the earlier practice of sharing the trophy. The match raises funds for charity, distributing proceeds to FA Cup clubs and national charity partners, and was renamed the Community Shield in 2002 after a Charity Commission ruling on the FA's charitable obligations. The current holders are Crystal Palace, who defeated Liverpool in the 2025 fixture, winning 3–2 on penalties after a 2–2 draw.
