Rafael Devers (born October 24, 1996) is a Dominican professional baseball infielder and designated hitter who currently plays for the San Francisco Giants after spending his MLB career with the Boston Red Sox, debuting in 2017. With the Red Sox, he became a three-time All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and a key member of their 2018 World Series championship team. Before the 2023 season, he signed an eleven-year, $330 million contract extension, but was traded to the Giants in June 2025 after just one full season under the deal. Signed as a 16-year-old international free agent in 2013 for $1.5 million, he rapidly climbed the minor leagues, making his MLB debut in July 2017. In his rookie year, he made history by becoming the youngest Red Sox player to homer since Tony Conigliaro in 1965 and by hitting a game-tying home run off Aroldis Chapman's 102.8 mph pitch—the fastest pitch hit for a home run since MLB began tracking velocity in 2008. His powerful left-handed bat and rapid rise made him one of the most exciting young hitters in baseball before his surprising trade to San Francisco.
